The Standard

What a move ought to be.

Most movers were built to compete on price. VelvetMove was built to find the movers who compete on the experience of moving a home you love — and these are the standards we hold every mover in our network to.

A single point of contact

One relocation specialist — from the mover we match you with — owns your move from the first conversation through final placement. No call trees, no handoffs, no rotating crews.

Custom crating, considered packing

Artwork, antiques, china, and instruments are crated to museum standard on-site. Wardrobes travel hung. Glassware travels twice-wrapped. Nothing is improvised.

Dedicated, vetted crews

Your crew is assigned to your move and yours alone — no shared trailers, no combined loads. Background-checked, uniformed, and trained to a single house standard.

Discretion, end to end

NDAs available on request. Unmarked trucks where preferred. Coordination with estate managers, building staff, and security on both sides.

The process

Three conversations, then a quiet move.

  1. 01

    Consultation

An in-home or virtual walk-through with the mover we match you with — scope, sensitive items, access, timing, and your standards, documented. No boilerplate questionnaires.

  2. 02

    Plan

A written move plan: crating list, crew assignments, vehicle plan, climate considerations, building-side logistics on both ends, contingency days.

  3. 03

    Execution

One specialist on the ground with you, one phone number, one set of hands. Final placement is part of the move, not an extra.

VelvetMove connects you with movers who specialize in long-distance white-glove relocations across the continental United States — custom crating, dedicated crews, and a single specialist from first call to final placement. VelvetMove is a referral service, not a moving company. Calls to 1-877-889-3668 may be recorded for quality and training.

Questions

What people ask first.

Seven of the questions we hear most often, answered plainly.

What makes white-glove long-distance moving different from a standard interstate move?
Standard interstate movers price by weight and combine multiple households into shared trailers. White-glove long-distance moving uses a dedicated trailer, a dedicated crew, custom on-site crating, climate-controlled transit, and a single specialist who owns the move from first conversation to final placement. VelvetMove connects you only with movers who specialize in this category of move.
Do you handle co-op move-outs in Manhattan?
Yes. Co-op and condo buildings on the Upper East Side, Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Tribeca, and the West Village require certificates of insurance, advance elevator-pad reservations, and exact freight windows. The mover we match you with submits packets ahead of consultation and confirms directly with your building's resident manager before pack day.
How far in advance should we book?
Typical lead time is two to four weeks. For peak corridors — New York to Palm Beach in November, the Hamptons in shoulder season — six to eight weeks is safer. Estate consolidations or moves with extensive crating may require longer.
Is the move covered by insurance?
Yes. Every move is fully insured with full-value protection. The written move plan includes the declared valuation, the coverage terms, and the claims protocol. High-value items (art, wine, watches, jewelry, antiques) can be additionally inventoried for specialist coverage.
How do you handle art, antiques, wine, and other sensitive items?
Custom crating is built on-site by a specialist crew. Climate-controlled transit is standard. Wine cellars are inventoried, packed, and transported with humidity management. Art is crated to museum standard, and the mover coordinates with art handlers at the destination if you prefer them to perform placement.
Will the same crew that packs my home also unpack it?
Yes. Dedicated crews travel with the move. The team that packs your home is the team that places it. There are no transfers between cities and no shared loads.
How is privacy and discretion handled?
NDAs are signed at consultation. Crews are briefed on confidentiality. Unmarked vehicles are available where preferred. Client names, addresses, and routes are never published. Privacy is the starting condition, not an upgrade.
